The Beauty of PHATTALUNG
A Photo Essay by Nipon Riabriang
Former Dragon Art Media (nee Artasia) senior photographer Nipon "Ton" Riabriang recently went on a road trip to Phattalung province and came back with these images and observations.
"I recently spent one week at Phattalung province in southern Thailand," says Ton "While there, I made a new friend named Khun Num, the owner of hip resort called Wetland Camp at Tale Noi, a famous Phattalung landmark. He loves wildlife photography, and let me enjoy the wildlife in the nearby forest and the lives of the resident fishermen.
"Not far from the resort I was amazed by the traditional drum, or phon maker, a clever elderly man who uses native material such as bamboo to make drums. I was also very impressed with Nung Talung, or the shadow puppet show. Both the drum maker & the owner of the shadow puppet show have spent their lives doing something they love.
