Kamala's View to Thrill
Kamala's View to Thrill

The Hyatt Regency Phuket Resort is the first Hyatt-branded resort to open on Phuket and from almost every vantage point of the secluded property guests can enjoy unobstructed, cascading views of the Andaman Sea and its spectacular sunsets. The resort is nestled on the hillside overlooking Kamala Cove at the southern tip of Kamala Beach. Terraced up the verdant hill, this five-star resort offers unobstructed panoramic views of the Andaman Sea and spectacular sunsets from the majority of its 199 rooms.

Keith Massey, the resort's general manager, explains that the property has been through three sets of hands, the current Thai owners, Kamala Bay Ventures, who through their affiliates also own the Park Hyatt Siem Reap and Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa, took it over in 2013 and engaged Hyatt to manage it.

"We are delighted to bring the Hyatt Regency brand to one of the region's most sought-after resort destinations and honoured to further strengthen our relationship with Kamala Bay Ventures," says Keith. "The Hyatt Regency Phuket Resort is a unique and extraordinary hideaway offering tranquility and seclusion in a stunning, natural setting. It is an ideal base for business meetings, families and leisure travellers, and we are eager to share the very best of Hyatt expertise and authentic Thai hospitality with our guests."

Keith says Hyatt has different brands that represent different type of products, but more specifically they attract a different kind of market.
A Park Hyatt compares to a Four Seasons, a Ritz Carlton, a Rosewood or a Fullerton, while a Grand Hyatt would compete against a Shangri-la, a Westin, or a JW Marriott. A Regency Resort then differs from the above two with its size and its event facilities. Kamala's View to Thrill "As a company we want to grow our resort portfolio, with a particular focus in the Asia-Pacific region," says Keith. (Current resorts in the region include Hua Hin, Danang, Kuantan, and now the one in Phuket.)"

What will set the Hyatt Regency Phuket Resort apart from other resorts? "We aim to provide the best of Thai hospitality and we want to be able to differentiate ourselves through our service. And of course our brand, Hyatt is now in Phuket for the first time—we have a very good reputation and our loyalty program is very powerful.

"We have a resort that is convenient; it's in a great location, 15 minutes to Surin, 20 minutes to Patong we are so close, yet so far, as we are located in a nice, quite part of the island with a great neighbourhood, 'Millionaire's Mile.' We have great average room sizes, we have 13 different types of rooms; including two-bedroom suites for the families, and 39 of those have a dipping pool.

"Also the views from our resort are amazing and the Sunset Grill, the Regency Club and our Spa, all located at the top of the resort, will capture all those amazing sunsets." As the road leading up to the top of the resort is quite steep there are 16 chauffeured buggies on site to transport people to and from. Sunset Grill
Located on the terraced hillside, with its remarkable cascading views, this is the resort's signature restaurant offering an indoor and outdoor dining experience focusing on daily sourced local sustainable products, fresh vegetables, seafood, seasonal selections and prime meats served from its show kitchen (the menu changes on a daily basis, and is driven by a chalkboard, and based on what is good, and what is fresh).

Recreational Facilities
The Nahm Spa with its 8 luxurious suites is tucked away atop the hill, offering Thai specialist massages as well as herbal and aromatic treatments. Taking "Mother Ocean" and its ebb and flow as key inspiration, the spa offers a combination of authentic Thai and specialist international treatments incorporating indigenous ingredients, and those taken from the sea, wherever possible.

After indulging, guests may wish to work off any extra calories in the Fitness Centre, equipped with the very latest strength and cardiovascular machines where they can access the Internet, watch TV or listen to their own MP3 player while exercising. Alternatively, they may prefer to swim a few laps in the expansive infinity pool overlooking the beach. The 72-metre pool, flanked by loungers and open salas, is longer than an Olympic-sized pool and is one of the largest on the island.
